Before You Clock In…

I’ve been reflecting on this week’s blog and decided to try something different.

I want to open the floor for a discussion and hear from you, the readers.

We all have something to learn from each other, and by listening to different perspectives, we can grow together.

Many of us with a lived experience of disability rely on aides to support us in our daily lives.

Some experiences have been traumatic, while others have been positive.

When people truly have a passion for helping others, it can be a beautiful experience!

However, supporting people with disabilities isn’t always the right fit for everyone, and that’s totally okay.

My hope with this blog is that those new to the field can look back on this as a resource and gain the perspective of someone with lived experience.

So, my question is:
To those living with disabilities: What’s one thing you wish people supporting you better understood?”

Please leave a comment below and share your thoughts.

Share this post with others who have support and encourage them to comment as well. I want this to be a widespread discussion!

Be respectful and have fun!

  1. Something I’d love supporters to better understand is that “independence” doesn’t mean doing everything alone. It means having the right support so I can make my own choices, pursue my goals, and live authentically. Listening first, instead of assuming, makes all the difference.
